Well, the count down is on:) Well, sort of. I know I have at a minimum of 1 month left and a maximum of 8 weeks (let’s hope she’s not 2 weeks over like my last one). I wanted to get ready for her arrival by attempting to potty train Hannah. I don’t have a lot of faith in my potty training capabilities, though, so I did some more research online to see if I could find a fool-proof method of doing this. I found a neat little e-book called, “Real Potty Training!”, that I found really helpful. However, I was not able to do potty training the entire day (or at least 4-6 hours as she suggests). So, it’s carried on into this week. I am hoping she’ll get the hang of it. She is 18 months this past month and acts ready to grasp this new concept.

Anyways, anyone care to share their methods or what worked for them and how long it was before they caught on would be some welcome encouragement.

I am going to try and infant train this new baby, so that going to the potty won’t be an issue and hopefully by the time she’s walking, she’ll be taking herself. I don’t really know anyone that well who has done this, but I would love to hear if anyone has or knows someone who has and what they did. I need to do more research in the area. Basically all that I have learned about it came from a NGJ issue that discussed how most third world countries infant train their little ones out of necessity. And how babies come into this world without one single habit, why start them on one by allowing them to wet in a diaper instead of the potty? I thought, huh, good point.

Alrighty, enough of the potty training excursions. Hope everyone is well. I will try to be more inspirational in my next post;)

Oh, and for those who are wondering how we are doing with all the natural disasters near by, all is well. We are northwest (I think) of where the severe damage is. Though many have had to evacuate their houses, crops have been lost, and several have lost their lives, God has been merciful to us and keeping us safe. Please keep praying for those families that are suffering during this time. And thanks everyone for your concern.

I have absolutely NO comment on the potty training. That is not an area where I have anything to brag about. Both my boys were very late getting trained, despite my best efforts. So I wish you success, but I have nothing to add, LOL.

Okay, I have to ask now since this is at least the 2nd post I’ve seen where you’ve called the baby ’she’. Did you have an ultra-sound and find out the gender? Do you know it’s a girl or is this just a guess from experience? Inquiring minds want to know!

And yes, we are northwest of most of the trouble, although if you go directly east on the Interstate, you’ll see the water is right up in the ditches. We hadn’t gone that way until yesterday and wow. I’ve only seen that one other time, and that was in ‘93. We’re pretty insulated from anything like that here, but you don’t have to go far to see the effects. It’s been quite the summer so far, hasn’t it?

I used potty training rewards to potty train our son. He started to run behind the couch to go in his diaper and then he would come and get me to change him, so the potty training began. He was so excited when he saw the audio button ne could push hearing he is a Big Boy and then opening a door to find a chocolate surprise. He really became involved. He was peeing and pooping in his potty within a week. I know every child is different, but have a look and see if this would work for you. http://www.pottytrainingrewards.com

I started with Noah when I thought he was ready… he did ok for a bit and then decided HE wasn’t ready. Once we got rid of the pullups and let him discover regular wet pants he decided fairly quickly that he’d rather go on the toilet. I have absolutely no clue about training from infancy! That sounds fascinating!

I love Mondays… it generally means new blog entries :) Love ya, Gina!

Sorry, I don’t have a potty training experience to share but I am anxious to hear what works with Hannah and how the infant-training goes, too!

I’ve been sitting here thinking of you as I try to map out next week during VBS with visitors. :-)
I wish I could be there when your new little one makes the arrival! I pray everything goes well and you enjoy the water-birth.

Rachel, you could totally come up!!! Just be here by around the 30th of July:) You can stay with me for a week. Or you could come up the week before the baby and hang out with me while I wait anxiously;)

Thanks everyone for the bits on training. I did some more research on the topic (even read some science journals), and I feel much better about it all. She is just wearing the cloth diapers without the covers now… and she tells me after she’s wet that she went and we change and sit her on the potty. I am sure she’ll get the hang of it. When I have another day, I will let her run around bear bottom with a t-shirt and we’ll hang out in the kitchen. We’ll see how it goes for her. It’s pretty laid back right now…
